are kindly inviting all interested academics, practitioners and members of the judiciary, legislative and executive authorities, to an online seminar on:
and their effects on the bankruptcies of EU-based enterprises
Introduction
EU sanctions against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, together with their national executive implementations effected in several viable businesses to freeze their operations and in consequence become insolvent and bankrupt. These enterprises pushed into the bankruptcy (liquidation) proceedings, in one single moment have lost their ability to buy, sell, pay and hire personnel. Bankruptcy regimes had to comply with the sanctions’ regime – and to say, they were inconsistent is to say nothing.
In one of the premiere Polish cases – the GoSport bankruptcy proceedings – the once successful and fully viable sport equipment retailer with a broad chain of shops could not exercise its basic, day-to-day duties and operations without a special permission of the head of Polish tax and duties authority. The employees had do be dismissed and the piecemeal liquidation had to be performed by the receiver.
Dr. Bartosz Sierakowski who is acting in this case as a receiver of Zimmerman Filipiak Restrukturyzacja will give some insight into the very specific challenges on the way in which bankruptcy meets sanctions’ system.

Post Conference Report
We would like to thank Christoph Paulus and Bob Wessels and all participants of webinar: EU sanctions against Russia and their effects on the bankruptcies of EU-based enterprises.
During the meeting, first, Anna Hrycaj and Christoph Paulus presented short introduction, dr Bartosz Sierakowski presented the Polish bankruptcy case of GoSport. Patryk Filipiak discussed EU bankruptcy cases provoked by anti-Russia sanctions. At the end Patryk Filipiak and Anna Hrycaj supported a discussion on execution of sanctions and bankruptcy laws of EU-members states (problems, challenges and recommendations). Anna Hrycaj expressed the view that the appropriate response to the inclusion of the company on the sanction's list and freeze of assets should be the appointment of a temporary administrator, the elimination of any flows and other business connections with Russia, but nevertheless maintenance the activity of the entity and sale of the company as a whole in order to protect employees and suppliers.
